4:18 pm - crap party
|
Nothing gets me more fired up than a crap party. Throwing a good party is hardly rocket science but people seem to be able to do it badly. It's got a lot to do with the flow of the party, eg the movement of people, easy access to the people you want to talk to and being forced to talk to and meet new people.
I'm looking forward to putting on a party for my birthday. Little do people know that it will be a karaoke party.
Jane and I went to this shopping mall yesterday. It was huge and mostly full of stuff I didn't want to look at. I bought somecheapwork shoes. I begrudge buying clothes for work. Walking around this huge mall really took it out of me.
On the way home I bought a copy of Brother To Brother - In The Bottle for $10 from john Idem. I've been spinning it constantly. I also bought a limited (300 copies) press of Skip Mahoney - Janice ($33.90 from www.raresoulman.com). Both tracks have great dance floor crossover feel.
Watched this british tv comedy The Phoenix club on a video sent to me by Paul Freeman. It's about this nightclub in the north of england. It is funny but I'm sure I would enjoy it more if I understood their northern accents better.

7:40 pm - buying things I shouldn't
|
|
this is the theme of my year, any little bit of money I do get I spend on ebay. Records and synths. Today for instance when I am most broke of all after being at the Northern Soul Weekender (Aus National) at the beginning of the month finally just haven been paid have bought at Roland MC50 sequencer. Cheap at $180 includinding postage but expensive when you consider the closeness of the holidays and planned holidays in jan. This is something that Jane will never be allowed to find out.

1:40 am - life, don't talk to me about life...
|
well time has gone very quickly and we think about the immediate past, I should be in bed, the sweet luxury and oblivion that is rudely shattered by the reality that I have to get up and have a shower get dressed eat and leave for work in 20 minutes. If Queer Eye were to come and do a make over on me they;d be about, not shaving properly and I can't bel;ieve your wearing blue and green together. I wouldn't mind them buying me stuff though, stuff I would never dream of buying for instance, like clothes and products. And stuff there is to be had, been playing Phantom Crash for nearly 3 hours now. Im totally obsessed with this record by Helen Shapiro called Stop and You Will Become Aware. I just saw a copy of it on Manship for 125 pounds. Could this be the most expensive record yet? I want it, I figure it slightly over half a weeks pay so it will be mine. Money that again could be well spent on going to the Soul Weekender in October. My next big holiday. Saw Andy Smith last week do a Northern set, I was glad to note some of the boots he played were the same as mine. My band is called the Raylenes. website is on my homepage here, there's mp3s to download. We supportted the Brunettes a few weeks ago at the North Melbourne town hall, close to my house, Rob Roy was last week and Good Morning Captain this weekend. Should go alright. I'm not going to win the footy tipping competition. Jane and I are living together. I don't think we've had a night apart since October last year. She funny, she is pretty, she does keep a bad fridge but luckily the rest of the house is immaculate. Spring is coming today has been beautiful. THERE's BEEN TO MUCH PARTY! our house is a party house, all my friends live close by. All of the Gimme Shelter crew live in North Melbourne, Helen (Janes sister) and Sarah are moving 500 meters away this week end, Jo lives 300 meters away (we've measured in a car). Gav lives 200 meters away but ironically I haven't seen him in months. I can't remember the last time I was bored. In order to be alone and not hassled I have to stay up late. I don't hang out with the people in my band much. O.k. sleepy time now.

Playing playstaytion and DJing, still don't have the turntables I put on layby it seems the expensive time is really taking out of the budget. Went to see Kill Bill last night and enjoyed it. On the 12th there is a big night happening called Gimme Shelter at whjich I am DJing should be cool.

1:48 pm - bumpin' ugly
|
|
There's a truck there, somewhere over the distance. What's it made of? A bad knock up cap with a silver fern on it. The music creates a hyper reality. My soul dances to intense orchestration, I spin and feel the universe revolve around me.

I'm going to go see Prince, it's pretty exciting, apparently he is preforming for the last time his old material. Adrian is the biggest Prince fan I know so I offered him my other ticket if he could make it here. Other exciting things are going to World Cup rugby games. Going to flash restaurants for lunch getting blind and spraining my ankle. Jane is very exciting, she has made living in Melbourne really really great. My addiction to ebay is frightening. Today I won a Ben Sherman shirt and on monday recieved in the mail a purple velvet jacket which I had bought for $1. I really hope I win the four track i'm bidding on as well, I need to take control of my rock n roll. I'm suddenly very conscious of the lateness of things and soon it will be time to head to Queensland for christmas. I'm going to have a BBQ soon, the sun had some real heat in it today.

what a nice relaxed weekend, I made amaretto sours, ate chinese and watched video's. I even got to drive to the video store, it's my new years resolution to own a car. The P Vale is a retreat of sorts though there is something in fact that if you go out then when you get back the house is still clean and tidy. I'm so crap a t washing dishes it's a great defence. James, Per, Justin and myself through radio exposure are now refered to as the soul pack. It's just crazy enough to work.

4:06 am - it's all pudding
|
|
pudding who would have thought, it's all pudding yes I just realised, not in any profound sense just in the sense that "shit I have to string a sentence together for my live journal" kind of way. Oh poor reader, why do i subject you to this. It must ego, it can be nothing less. I continue this charmed life in which I prefer to read other peoples live journals rather than write my own and it's not like I have anything interesting going on in my life because I do, yes there's lots going on. Lots I tell you, you have no idea, there's not enough hours in the day. Like weekend before last I went to the Public Office (it's a bar) and didn't see the bands play instead hungout with guys in kilts. DJ'd a the brunny with all my new records and at Lambs Go where there was a very out of it Gav and Greshem. and work is doing it'sa thing, a thing of which I am very good at, like i kick ass. and this week and next week oh lordy. THen there was SITS where I DJ'd. People who haven't been to SITS might not realise what an honour this was but some of the old geezers think I truly am the future of northern soul, god bless. And riding the bike around, that's so much fun the weaqther is slowly sorting itself out and oh my god my room is a mess. Just shit every where. All is requires is picking the clothes up and putting in appropriate places (like a washing basket) but it is much better just lying here in bed with my computer on my lap and shopping for records. Bought Doug Parkinson for $20 AU at a record fair in Box Hill on Sunday because I saw a copy go $75 US on ebay last week. Jane is funny and bright and sexy, it's all pudding.

pre: wed, the Brunswick, the soul massive, special mention of James and Jane my new soul buddies from Glasgow. James is a DJ and is organising a minibus out to SITS next week. Where I will be DJing for the first time. It's exciting.
i'm so crap and tired now but that has something to do with last night. I am now going to be the main promoter in a monthly soul night. I drunk many cocktails with Ben while doing this before taking the club owner Bill and Brandon the bar manager to Cherry. Pierre was playing I hope they don't get the wrong idea but I think I explained to them the difference between northern soul and Pierre's southern fried style. Ben and I were keen to rock on so we stopped at Club UK, I thought that place was cool. They played god music and the people there were going crazy at 4 in the morning. We then walked past this crazy nightclub and someone said it was free to get in and there was a techno rave going on. They had a talc'd up dance floor so that was good. Went to Bens new apartment and smoked a joint and drunk aged sauvignon blanc (hrmmm), then I showed him how to download MAME onto his mac and we played 1943, Gyruss, Moon Patrol, Galaga and Bubble Booble till 7.30 when I did a tram ride of shame back home and slept all day. I have a cold. I was doing so well, atleast 10 days with no alcohol. internationale crazy signiture vomit

kicking about as per usual, the sobriety thing is very strange and energising my appetite has changed as well. A quick run through of events for future consumption. work, wednesday making it to the brunswick just as Jane was leading, had a disturbing conversation and almost broke up but made up and things are going good. Friday Judda got engaged to Wendy. Saturday worked knocked of early and went to the indie night Fanclub. Sunday LGB, Justin played, he's getting a kick ass collection of storming 45s together. and work the last few days and I have tomorrow off, more twin tub action, hopefully I'll be able to dry my clothes and take my bass amp to Andy's and have a jam.

more carnage, I am doing postve things like using the twin tub washing machine Lyndalls mum gave us and giving up drinking for a few weeks. My body will revolt majorily I feel if I don't. There's a certain kind of tension between Jane and I at the moment, who knows what will become. It's not easy being crazy, even in a crazy world. I went to 2 movies yesterday, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Secretary, O h to be loquacious and speak of matters intelligently, I need a mind like a razor! Would you believe I paid $31 US for a record over the weekend, I bet you do. This week I have bought ; The Fascinations - Girls Are Out To Get You $31 Millie Jackson - My Man Is A Sweet Man $2 The Steelers - Get It From The Bottom $4 Lorraine Silver - Lost Summer Love $5 LaVern Baker - Bumble Bee $8.50
Roughly $100 $AU. Go Black!

2:13 pm - I drink so
|
well the weekend it has been, friday night shit fight as per usual at work, with a fair amount of drinking at the bar downstairs afterward. woke up on Saturday and started getting ready for the Soul In The Suburbs all-dayer. I brought a complete outfit of shoes, pants, shirt, jacket and glasses from the 2 Salvation army stores for less than $40 and man I looked hot. the shoes unfortunately had these inch high heels and came apart after much dancing. Jane drove Per, Kara and I out, the crowd was large3r than your average SITS croowd with many people coming from interstate, I got dragged off far too early though and I wasn't at all happy. We went to Go Set when we got back and the place was dead, next week is going to be the last one, atleast Per and I are DJing. Sunday was another day and Jane took me out to Wallan to have a roast with her family. I am trying to decide whether the hangover helped or not, I did feel like going for a nap after lunch though, then we came back into town for the All-dayer recovery party at Lambs Go Bar, heaps of the SITS crowd showed up and I played a 2.5 hour set before Keith took over the decks and tore things up. Ther was much dancing, singing, clapping of hands, drinking of beer, playing of pool and smoking of joints. Brilliant.

my geekiness is no new thing you realise readers and is surely something to be cheerished. I have just bought the best suit and am hyped about going to the alldayer at Soul In The Suburbs. Had a great date with Jane yesterday we went to see Eddie Izzard, a totally amazing experience, I had to keep reminding myself he was thesame room as me and not on TV, lots of obscure references to gags he made in glorious and dressed to kill. I spent the rest of the night thinking I was as funny, go stand up comedy as a life afirming experience, the melbourne concert hall is impressive as well, even though the building makes little or no impact on the melbourne cityscape. i suppose the silly spikey tower thing detracts. After Eddie me and Jane walked to a great chinese restaurant called Supper Inn and ate ourselfs stupid drink Tsing Tao beer. We then went to Koo Koo where I had a cognac and Jane had water before going to Cherry for more beer and some dancing. The suit made it feel perfectly cool for to go up to the bar order a kahlua and coke, though I am fantasing about brandy amd dry at the moment.

2:00 am - massive retaliation
|
so glad that particular 48 hours is over. 2 days of split shifts, it is no wonder that I woke up on monday morning grumpy as all hell. I've never sworn so much in all my life. The weekend was much of a non event. On sunday I DJ'd at Lambsgo and drunk too much stout, I think the stout caused my monday morning depression. that or having to go to the laundromat. I wish I had pictures to show you how shit this laundromat is but this bit of graffitti sums up the ambience "you shouldn't spent all your money on smack and buy a washing machine so you don't have to hangout in this shithole" the only that brightens the place up is the unique graffical style of my favourite graffitti artist Reify. Work on monday was blah but I didn't have to stay till the bitter end and managed to go see a late movie Igby Goes Down which I enjoyed a lot. Today was much the same. i cuaght a train to work which was novel. The rest of the week is going to sweet as. Jane has said she knows of a good minigolf course somewhere.
